The Course
The Music Production Essentials course offers 12 mentoring sessions that introduce students to music production and guide them through creating and producing their own tracks. We aim to make learning fun and inspirational, with practical exercises in each module and a project students can choose to release.
The course covers everything from the basics to developing ideas, assembling and polishing tracks, releasing and promoting music, and growing as an artist.
Our mission is to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as well-rounded artists in today’s music landscape.
What You‘ll Need
You can take this course with just a pen and notebook. However, to maximize your experience, consider having a MIDI keyboard and a subscription to Reason Studios* if you don’t yet have a DAW. A pair of headphones or monitor speakers would also be beneficial, but don’t let the lack of equipment stop you from enrolling. This course is designed to help you choose the right gear as you discover your style as a music producer. Our goal is to ensure you make informed purchases, rather than spending unnecessarily.
*Subscribing monthly is the most cost-effective way to access the tools without committing to a full software purchase.
Who is it for?
The Music Production Essentials mentoring course is designed for both beginners with no prior knowledge and those who have already started their journey but want to enhance their skills in a mentoring setting. The course is tailored to each student’s specific music goals, making it ideal for DJ’s who want to release their own track for the dance floor, or singer-songwriters looking to create additional layers or backing tracks for their compositions. Musicians can also benefit by gaining a deeper understanding of producing and releasing their own music or by learning how to fill in parts of their tracks that might otherwise require additional session players or band members.
We are also open for school partnerships. Please send us a message and let’s connect!
What this course will do for you and save you from...
By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid understanding of what fits your workflow. You’ll be able to program drum beats, synth, and bass parts; edit sounds through synthesis; use effects; record; and arrange music that flows seamlessly. You’ll also develop critical listening skills, transforming how you hear and appreciate music. Additionally, you’ll learn to polish your creations through mixing and mastering, ensuring your tracks are enjoyable for your listeners.
The course will save you time and money.
You’ll avoid common mistakes that waste time, allowing you to focus on creativity instead of figuring things out. By learning the right approach from the start, you’ll accelerate your progress and save years of trial and error.
Furthermore, you’ll save money by understanding your needs before investing in equipment. Gear can be expensive, and this course helps you identify what truly works for you, avoiding unnecessary purchases. Instead of being overwhelmed by countless recommendations, you’ll be able to narrow down what’s essential and invest only in gear that suits your production style.
Your Mentor
Hi, I’m Cy, also known as silverfilter, and I’m the Program Director at Sonic Recipe.
With over 20 years of experience in the music industry, I’ve had the privilege of working both inside and outside the studio—performing live, producing, arranging, and composing. My journey has allowed me to work on a broad range of music projects for TV, radio, games, labels, events, music libraries, and ad campaigns.
Some of my work has been featured on platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and BBC—a blessing that I’m truly grateful for.
I took the next step in creating Sonic Recipe to pass on my knowledge and guide the next generation of producers and artists. Our courses are designed to ensure that every student not only starts but also finishes strong. While that may sound simple, it takes a lot to achieve. The course is here to make it easier with structured learning, and I’m here to make it fun and engaging with the mentoring.
How we teach and how you learn
We believe that inspiration drives artists. When we work on something we love, progress comes naturally. That’s why our mentoring course is tailored to what excites each student individually.
While the course has a structured foundation for the essentials, it remains flexible enough to cater to each student’s specific needs.
